★He outlines three rules they must obey or be disqualified:

Soon enough, the candidates begin to uncover each other's background, prejudices and hidden agendas. ★Exam is a gem of a film. This low budget psychological thriller is very clever, incredibly entertaining and the production values are all far better then you would expect from such an unknown film. 3. Exam is a 2009 British psychological thriller film written by Simon Garrity and Stuart Hazeldine, directed by Hazeldine.Eight candidates cooperate in order to get a job in a prestigious company. They appear for their assessments in the company. Each were given a paper titled 'candidate' with a number on it. The invigilator puts forth certain rules for them and asks them to answer the only question within 80 minutes. The candidates must not: talk to the Invigilator or the armed guard at the door, spoil their paper, or leave the room. If they do, they will be disqualified. He asks them if they have any questions, and then leaves the room. To their surprise their is no question in the paper and they decide to cooperate with each other to find the question. One starts keeping nicknames to them to remember them by their physical appearance and he was rude. They tried to find out the question using light, UV and infrared light, but to their dismay they can't read the question paper. Many were disqualified in the process for breaking the rules. They all became so mean to each other for securing the job. They started fighting and even tried to kill the other with the guard's gun. One among the 8 candidates was the CEO who took the test along with them for assessing the group. He is a scientist who was nicknamed 'deaf' by the rude person and he also disqualified himself and went out. Finally, the blonde survived the exam and got selected. The aspect I like is that the question was very simple yet they complexed it because they have a perception that it is a very big company and they definitely will ask difficult questions. The learning is that people are so selfish and brutal that they even go to any extent in securing something big for them. In a greed for more, they tend to act inhuman to the people surrounding them. The basic humanity is lost when the White tried to kill the black and the blonde for the job. And when the guy thought the psychiatrist is a mediator for the company, he tortured her for question.People should possess empathy whatever may be the situation or circumstances given. To sum it up, the movie was a pure thriller and the last ten minutes kept me in the end of the chair and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

The movie portrays to which extent people are ready to sacrifice their morals for sucess. The white was being agressive about success he was ready even to kill the black. I liked the blonde character. She was intelligent and compassionate. The movie made us think till the last moment about what the question was. It proved the point that we over analyse the situation and forget to find the solution which is simple. The altering the time by the deaf character was a major twist. The exam was more about testing the presence of mind. It's a different approach. I think it's a low budget but intriguing movie.

    A MIND BOGGLING RIDE

This movie is a psychological study of Competition, Stress, Anger and Ambition, obviously well crafted, that twist my way of thinking up to last minute.

The signs are there right from the introduction scene of eight characters, each of whom have distinct personalities, that can understand lucidly by their actions of applying lipstick, tossing coin, removing stain, etc.

These eight candidates except CEO of the company ( who is one among them) have the problem, which is not lack of ambition, but aiming too high. What they do not realize is that their wings aren't fully formed and are only made up of wax, in trying to fly higher and higher, they get burned and fall spectacularly.
That is why they can't able to understand the simple question "Any Question?".

But when they realize that there can be only one ultimate winner, they try to be that person by destroying others. This puts the film into thriller territory but the execution is laughably bad.
This reminds me the proverb "All is fair in love and War", but such kind of destructive mind as possess by some of the candidates is not needed for the company.
People should not choose wrong path and sacrifice their mortals only for the sake of success. If they do so then it leads to their dereliction, as happened to candidates of the exam.

Well, the screenplay and music are worth noticeable and of course, I accept that it is a tense, mysterious, and has a great atmosphere and more importantly it stimulates the brain.

Out of all we suffered during school days, the lack of peace due to the commencement of exams top the list. Even though suffering has become optional in colleges, results lend an inevitable outcome of our choices. Likewise, the psychological thriller film "EXAMS" released in 2009 express the concept, "mankind always wants to see through future, when they already have the answer hidden in the past". The plot unfolds in a mysterious way, as each competitor delivering suggestions to find out a question from a blank paper. By the concept of having different kinds of people appearing for the test, writers have explored diversity and comparison among different traits commonly seen around. They have also made us examine the greatness in each character and evidently how they went wrong. The subtext as a whole may urge us to develop patience and listening skills. But there is much more hidden for some emotionally immature people. It describes emotionally no one mimics another, and everyone has their own need to fight for even a common cause. The only aspect i like about the movie is the company's details have not been revealed, no one knows whom they are going to work for, but still a highly competitive mob is ready to exploit their thought resources to qualify. Every moment white kept stealing the attraction of the general audience whereas some of them pitied "the deaf" hidden at the back of the scene. The eviction of the Chinese girl at the beginning reveals the true consequences and inflicts fear making candidates to watch over there every next move carefully. Most of the contestants were seemed to be affected by the virus, it says that even the cause of fighting for life doesn't bring out the best in you. At the end of a heavy quarrel, dislike gestures, hate, redemption and intriguing thoughts, blonde had won the contest not with her qualities alone but because she doesn't have the qualities that others possessed. Since the world always wants to win, the writers makes audience who wants to become that blonde in their own interviews(life) to inherit the following qualities,

    * Don't gamble with other's life like brown
    * Don't spoil other's opportunity to success for your victory like White
    * No matter how clever you are like Deaf, you need to know how to communicate to pursue the work successfully
    * Luck isn't always the matter of fact, even if you have a leprechaun's four leaved clover - Brown
    * Patience is the only key to see through the end - White and Chinese girl
    * Whenever you are traveling on a custom made road of curiosity, be cautious to check your belongings(opportunity to stay on road) often - Brunette
    * Don't provoke a mercenary hidden inside a geek - Black
    * No matter how keen you pay attention, its just a matter of fact to listen other's view and come to a conclusion - everyone is a piece of answer to the puzzle.

Which such interesting and escalating screenplay, we had a good show time. Beside the characters, don't forget that we audience too hoped at every moment for the question to pop up each time they tried. This becomes a great success for the movie by stealing the thoughts of the people who witnessed it. How many of you liked the Security guard? let me know your comment on him below....

    Review:

Shown into a windowless examination room, eight candidates have reached the final stage of selection for a prestigious job at a mysterious corporation. There is one question before them and one answer is required. If they try to speak to him or the armed guard by the door they will be disqualified. If they leave the room for any reason they will be disqualified. If they spoil their papers they will be disqualified. As the clock ticks down, they must figure out what the company expects of them, and how far they are prepared to go to secure the ultimate job. This is the storyline of the movie “The Exam (2009)”.

    Theme:

This movie portrays the mind of the people when they are exposed to stress, pressure, competition and time-limits. The movie is seemly fueled by human emotion and an enigmatic situation. A professional nature and a corporation overtone is clear from the start that sets the tone for these selectees. “Exam” succeeds in keeping a high level of suspense that also keeps the viewing audience glued to the story as a participant themselves. The height of the film is the mystery, the interactions, and the enigmatic environment. In fact, the film is set within 1 single location, 1 set, and for that matter one purpose.

The part which I liked the most:

Every single minute kindled my curiosity as to “what the ‘Question’ was”. The knowledge that we have acquired makes us thing in several aspects but we miss certain obvious things like - “Any Questions?” This shows that we must be alert and keen in observation of the simplest things which might have great values as the movie had portrayed!

    Learning from Human Psyche:

Some of the obvious facts that we can learn from the film are:

 We shouldn’t be too ambitious by destroying others
 Humanity must be exhibited to our fellow mates
 Patience and perseverance will take us to great heights
 Never underestimate anyone. The greatest person might seem very humble.
 Don’t judge people by their looks
 Be a good observant in noticing the minute and simple details

In short this movie is one of its kind!

'Exam' is an intriguing film by Stuart Hazeldine. This movie is all about finding out the question not the answer. Eight talented candidates are locked up in a windowless room with an armed guard for the selection of the most competitive job. An invigilator comes and reveals three rules. Candidates would be disqualified if they communicate with him or the guard, if they spoil their paper, if they decides to leave the room. There is a question before them and one answer is required. Each and every word uttered by him is recalled by the candidates throughout the film. The test is for 80 minutes and we can feel the mastermind of director in every minute. All the candidates are different in their own way. White starts the conversation and discussing to find out the question. In the very few minutes, we can come to know about the envious nature of White. Each candidate with their knowledge trying to find out the question. At last Blonde succeeds. The film is not about just finding out the question but about the human psychological behavior in a competitive situation. The major twist and my favorite part in this movie is speeding up the time by Deaf. Above all White has a gripping character. A single movie has many lessons ,
    * not to be very ambitious and envious
    * exercise patience whatever the situation is
    * should safeguard their belongings
    * should not blindly believe others
To sum it up, this movie presents a great puzzle and the way for getting the solution is spellbound.

  9. If you are a cool headed and patient being, willing to watch an enigmatic psychological thriller, then the movie “ EXAM ” qualifies to be one of your preferences. The movie poses to be distinctive in many aspects that it walks into the worth watching list of movies without much arguments. To mention a few, the movie being a low budget and a single set one, it justified every criteria to keep the audience engaged with a tensed and mysterious ambience, paralleling psychological cuing. The plot is about a final stage of corporate selection exam in which 8 talented candidates must qualify themselves in 80 minutes to deserve the prestigious job. The invigilator outlines three rules that they must obey or would be disqualified: The candidates must not speak with the security guard or the invigilator, They must not spoil the answer sheet provided, They must not leave the windowless room. He then starts the clock and leaves. The crux of the movies starts here when the candidates find no question in the sheet provided. The audience are also forced to decipher the puzzle of “What is the Question?” along with the 8 candidates, which is the main hold for the movie’s recognition. The candidates accepts to co-operate within themselves to figure out the question and the laws of the exam by pushing their boundaries, due to which some of them gets eliminated. At one point of time, It becomes a question of survival and endurance, rather than a job qualifying exam. What is the question? Where is it? Who qualifies the job finally? Why is the selection process so intricate? What is the enigma behind that corporate? We get flooded with so many such questions conjointly with the pressure of the fleeting time. Probably the director wants to imply some irony by naming the candidates based on their race, which is not fathomable to me. The movie also highlights impulse driven blunders turned actions that people do in the name of “survival of the fittest”, which turns inhumane at one point. The film is well winded up with an unsaid fact: an amalgam of patience, endurance, humanity and wit is always a boom and benefit, regardless of any circumstances. The cinematography of the movie, characterization (especially of the antagonist) and the dialogues are concrete upholds, without which the plot appears dumb and pointless. Apart from many circumstantial flaws, in my opinion, the movie is worth your time.

  10. 'Exam' movie review.
The movie is a psychological thriller, casting 10 people in a confined room and their 'behavioral and psychological' attitude during an exam. Now, the importance of the exam and the rules applying to it, is what that triggers all the behavioral phenomenon that we see in the movie.
From the choice of words of the examiner to the environmental details like the exam paper, (which really had no other purpose but to distract the examinees from the 'question'), the guard etc., I felt, everything was purposefully maneuvered to try and test 'mind-work' under stress and, in no time, we did see the examinees succumbing to it.
The Chinese woman and the first person to be disqualified, when on seeing the blank question paper in front of her, did not pause and go back on the invigilator's brief speech as that could be the only alternative to where she would find the question or clues that lead to the question if they weren't on paper. Instead, she wanted to start with something as the tension was ebbing on her. A prior mentioned rule by the examiner, that one should not in any way spoil their paper, ensured that she was no longer a part of the race. The very same rule also made it evident that even if the question was discovered, it was not meant to be written, at least not on their own paper.
After the first exit, the others were more careful and soon they did find that they could do whatever the examiner has not forbidden them from doing. There were seven of them from then on- a White, a Black, a Brown, a Deaf, a Blonde, a Brunette and a Dark.
The Deaf is another interesting character- the CEO in guise of an examinee. His nature may be described as vulnerable and fragile, unlike what one expects from a CEO.
Everyone, except the deaf decides to go for team-work to decipher the question. In the inception, it is quite well; assuming that the question is hidden in the paper and that it has to be revealed by some method, ideas are suggested and tried. But after successive failed attempts, there is the beginning of desperation. That is when the other thought creeps up- 'another way to win is to ensure that one eliminates the opponents'. And that is how the following disqualifications happen. The Brunette is the first to be cheated, by the White and it is he who is more inclined towards this mind-set compared to the rest. The deaf, being the vulnerable person, he is, is affected by the turn of events in his test, and gets himself eliminated due to provocation by the White. Soon 'eliminating the opponent' is taken to such a literal level, that even murder comes into play. It was an exam and we witnessed few scenes of purposeful infliction of torture, a murder (at least that was what the character thought he did), an attempt to suicide.

  11. Contd.
How the simple sentence' there is only one question and only one answer' was interpreted so much differently from what it actually meant!
However, being on the other side of the screen, even I was distracted from the 'question'. This made me realize that it is not just about fear and ambition. They are not the only things that clouds one's vision. Sometimes, when we start to over think and try to apply all our gained knowledge with a pre-notion that the hardest of the questions reveals the most brilliant of minds, we lose our grip and when each of those applications, each of those methods fail, that is when the frustration begins and we give more importance to where others stand at that precise moment; how much more closer are they to figuring out the result? Interestingly, the idea of wanting to get others out of the race seemed to be more prevalent among the masculine gender. Yet, I would not say that the females were totally opposed to the idea, but they did show more reluctance than their male counterparts.
The movie reminded me of an Agatha Christie book that I had read during my school days- ' And then there were none’ (this line 'and then there were five' brought me on to it). This is again a psychological thriller and I assure you that it would make a very interesting read.
Finally, coming to the one flaw I found in the movie (among may be a few more that I couldn't find)- the Examiner says, "there is only one question and only one answer." Since we all do know the question, doesn't the question actually have two answers? A 'no' and a 'yes'.

  13. This movie 'exam' was quite a thrilling journey. They had tried to bring in all the possible details to tactfully keep the audience from guessing the plot twist. The intricacies in visual detailing, for example, shooting the entire movie inside a single room, etc., did create a strong impact on our psyche.
The overall theme of the movie was to portray how uniquely each human mind works when put under a similar distressing situation. The entire movie gave the feel of a chess game, where the audience is forever trying to interpret what the next impending move might be. Although the movie is well made, i felt that it was wee bit dragging after the first half due to which the climax didn't come out very well as expected. Honestly, blonde, the character who emerges as the winner, was not an impressive character to me at the start of the movie. However, her quick wit and compassion was shown along the progress of the movie which made me abide that she was one of the most deserving contestants. My personal favorite was black. He was honest and straightforward and played a fair game without meaning to cause any harm to others. He definitely did not deserve to die, and thankfully he didn't. The person who played white also did a commendable job. Deaf again was a very intriguing character. I kept getting the impression that he might find the answer and win. Technically he did find, and i was quite disappointed when he was disqualified. Each character did stand out in its own way. On the whole, the movie was a mind boggling watch.

  14. The 'EXAM' is a bloated movie with a simple storyline. I wonder what will be the fate of the movie had anyone answered with a yes/no for the question "Any questions?" that the examiner poses after his frightening speech. 8 individuals appear for a job-screening test. They are presented with a question. The examiner frames 3 set of rules. -
    1. No one should communicate with him or the guard at the doors.
    2. No one should damage their question paper.
    3. No one should leave the room willingly for any purpose.
Failing to which, they are disqualified.
The theme of the movie is how well a human performs when put under stress. A good set of skills alone will not fetch you a grand job. Infact, many companies consider 'stress interviews' as a part of the candidate evaluation. Skills are aquirable, while the good quality of character is developed. Save for the blonde, everybody else were panic-stricken. The Chinese girl broke the first rule and quickly thrown away. White wants to get in by eliminating others. Dark knew a few things about the firm's goal, about the medicine they are developing, gists about the CEO. Brown loses his temper when he interrogates Dark. There's a point where White suffering from the virus infection goes into comatose.,atleast that makes us think justice is restored for he kicked out the innocent French man and manipulated Brunette to burn her own question paper. But, Blonde saves his life. The pill goes into the sewer, while everybody has gone mad, Blonde thinks clearly, she takes out the pill with her hairpin. Black loses his temper when he pulls the trigger. The purpose of the guard with a gun, I believe is to instigate violence among them. Brown surrenders to White who sued him to walk away. Black, who hesitated was shot down. Blonde runs to the door. With all candidates wiped out, White asks the examiner to hire him, only then he realizes that 80 minutes had not been over, he is disqualified. Blonde finds the question with the help of the spectacles of the French man. She comes to know the French man is the CEO. She answers 'No'. The part I liked the most is how the Blonde refused to take the job, for the cruel kind of test that the CEO practised to hire assistants. This showed the genuinity of her character. She was assured that Black was not killed, rather treated for the infection. The bullet had the capsule of the medicine they developed.

  15. Review:
Deemed as a psychological thriller, “Exam” centres around eight talented candidates who face-off each other for the top job at a prestigious, anonymous company. Presided over by a security officer who oversees all, as they seek to find the answer to the question in the exam that they've been asked by the invigilator in a windowless examination room. With three strict rules which must be obeyed at all costs, along with a pencil and a question paper, they must answer the one question provided to them within 80 minutes. With the first candidate being eliminated, the other candidates manoeuvre their moves carefully not to get expelled. As soon as they realize that they are allowed to talk, they were given pseudo names based on their physical appearances - White, Black, Brown, Deaf, Blonde, Brunette and Dark. As the tension builds up, the seven candidates race against time to find the “answer”. As the candidates begin to uncover each other's true identity, background, prejudices and hidden agendas. This manifests itself in various ways as the candidates gradually ruse each other in a variety of ways to eliminate one other which is interesting to watch and keeps you guessing who will crack the exam till the end.

As an avid fan of indie movies, this low budget film slowly unfolds which kept me in powerful suspense throughout unravelling each character’s virtue and their downfall (Like most of the films directed by Darren Aronofsky – Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan). With a relatively unknown diverse cast, along with the stellar script and cinematography (the way they utilised a single set to shoot each and every frame of the movie was toll), the movie is convincing and everyone seems to carry the sense of mystery required and so does the exam room (Not to mention the sly innuendos about racism and sexism). This movie make one’s brain tick in the search of the question to solve the case till the last minute (which cannot be predicted too easily). The movie is ingeniously developed, fast-paced, engaging and shocking at times and worth a watch. It’s definitely not a cup of tea for impatient movie goers as one needs to analyse each and every frame of the movie to come to a definite conclusion.

As far as learning from "human psyche" is concerned, the movie embodies every character with personalities we come across each and every day. Almost all the characters except Blonde and Deaf were ambitious for the post. Ultimately this lead to the downfall of the characters, especially White and Brown, trying to pull each and everyone’s legs trying to eliminate them. Unlike the Lamarck’s law “Survival of the Fittest”, it is human’s virtue to eliminate each other in competition rather than helping each other towards their survival. As the film proceeds, we are shown that team work (except Deaf) can help to decipher the question but later the “elimination” game grips them as they were far-fetched from the answer. From provocation, cheating to torture and apparent murder, this movie shows how one’s psyche changes to claims the ultimate prize. My favourite aspect was the film was how the character like Deaf, who is in fact the CEO of the company, was not stereotyped that one must brave and be extrovert in nature to hold such position. Also the quick-wit and outspoken nature of Blonde was portrayed very well.

The movie that initially starts with 8 candidates entering the hall along with the guard and invigilator turns to be a different perspective rather implied by the title when the candidates spot the question paper which is surprisingly empty. The movie deals with the psychological effects of the 8 people when put under one room with a same motive added to the spice of competition. The candidates who initially were confused at the sight of an empty question paper turn out be cooperative with each other to find the question. However this peace remains only for quite a some time later which is overpowered by their inner demons which lashed out on each other ina hunger to throw each other out for disqualification. The various method they tried to decipher the question turned them down as there were none on the paper except the candidate number.
The candidates perceive that the question must be only on the question paper where they fail to look out for the simplicity of the entire situation. Their thought were constrained to the point of convention that when they could decipher the rules but not the question. At some point of time they start to think big and come to a conclusion that the message intended was that only one must be alive to get the job. The story here tries to indicate one to be more attentive first before coming to a conclusion based on their own perception, the skill that all the candidates lagged (except 2). The story gives hint on the new methods of now a days interview where one must be more smart to know the question implied to check ones skill. The writer has indeed created a lot of emotional outputs for a simple question 'DO YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS' with a simple answer a 'NO'.
I liked the way the cast was selcted in a way to show the difference in their thoughts based on which they were secretive, impulsive, manipulative and deceiving. The dialogue , the cast and screenplay was very nice that supported the plot of the movie which can be watched with an intense feel.

  18. “Exam” is directed by Stuart Hazeldine, written by Stuart Hazeldine with story by Simon Garrity. The *Lesson* learnt from the movie is to always listen carefully. Just because there is no(obvious) questions does not mean there are no(obvious) answers. The following review about the film will make this stand clear.
Exam by no means is a horror film, but it does present an underlying tone of horror that is hard to place but is seemly fueled by human emotion and an enigmatic situation. In the sense that the theme of a group of people selected to participate in a test that involves 1 room, a facilitator that offers little to no real explanations and a circumstance of time. Regardless, the experience is about a situation and the way the folks within respond. 80 minutes are given with specific narrated instructions that the participants answer 1 question with 1 single answer. Each comes from a different background, a different race. Upon turning over the paper, they find a blank side. No question, no writing, no hint of what the next step is. A guard occupies the room that removes those who disobey the orders given. Don’t ask the guard or facilator questions, don’t leave the room, don’t soil the paper and meet the test within the allotment of time given. Oh ya, there are no other rules, law or terms given to complete the test. This surprise forces the group to work together, to suspect , to question each other and try and determine the main objective. What works for this film is a range of character traits that keeps the mystery and the interaction dynamics interfacing. “Exam” succeeds in keeping a high level of suspense that also keeps the viewing audience glued to the story as a participate themselves. “Exam” is directed by Stuart Hazeldine, written by Stuart Hazeldine with story by Simon Garrity. The character names are all assigned early on as classifications. Such as white, black, deaf, blond …etc. The height of the film is the mystery, the interactions, and the enigmatic environment. In fact, the film is set within 1 single location, 1 set, and for that matter one purpose. The only thing more frustrating than the circumstance is hoping that the film offers a true resolve that fulfills your curiosity.

  19. Exam is one of the most suspenseful, intriguing, clever, well written and thrilling movie I have watched. It is a psychological thriller movie written and directed by Hazeldens. It is really master mind movie about how a company can hire the most talented employee who can psychologically handle any difficult situation given to them. This movie portraits the mysterious cooperation of candidates who are in their final round of selection for a prestigious job .They have to answer one question in eighty minutes for which their task was to find what that question was. I stayed focused every minute and never got boring . Its gets more suspenseful and engaging . It is a superb character study, focusing on what people do in stressful, confusing and ever helpless situation.Despite their supposed cleverness, all the candidates here make mistakes that would be avoided by anybody with even the slightest knowledge of how these situations usually pan out in movies, and the whole thing gets very silly by the end.

  20. Hi ma’am… This is A.Muthahar Fazila from food tech……
To start with the review of this movie, I need not expand on the storyline as “all my friends” have done it…. So, I would wish to share my experience with this movie……
The “Exam” movie by Stuart Hazeldine, was very exciting. I had absolutely no expectations of this film, as I had never heard of it before. Since, most of the movies that are being released now-a-days, disappoint the viewers, I thought this would be another one. But I'm glad to say it wasn't. I have a hard time concentrating when watching movies, I often turn my attention to something else, like writing my assignments and records, cutting vegetables, etc., as I think “merely watching a movie, is a waste of time”. But, some movies though, manages to keep me focused the entire time and this was one of those movies.
Movies with such interesting storylines, become “People’s recommendations”, which is itself a great success. With every single minute, it got more suspenseful and engaging. I love a good mystery, where the movie makes you really think. This time I tried to solve the mystery myself. So I stayed focused every minute and it never got boring. It really gets us to think what the question is, which was so obvious once we realize after it was revealed.
The best thing is that, there was no flaw in the plot. It is not easy to come up with such an intelligent plot. "Exam" is a suspenseful, intriguing and clever, well written and thrilling film I have seen in a long time. The lessons that are taught by the movie involve,
    • Having keen attention, when something important is being said, which is important to find the most appropriate answer.
    • Working as a team, might sometimes work out more effectively than striving hard as an individual.
    • Patience, is essentially required, which is found to be absent in most of us.
    • The proverb, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is also highlighted in this movie.
I would definitely recommend this film to other people, who think they are smart enough, to come up with the right answer before the characters do.

“Exam” is a thriller movie directed by Hazeldine. It was released in UK cinemas. It has won the Independent Feature Award at Santa Barbara Film Fest. In every company, they sort people in a different way. Some interviewer hire people based on their punctuality, discipline, personality and their attitude, etc..They will be disqualified because of many reasons .But in this interview, the scenario is entirely different, they disqualified if they not obey their rules .They unknowingly get disqualified. The forms, the interviews, the questions, the ruthless socio-psychological test where you’re pitted against other contenders in a room under the beady eyes of a scarily blank-faced, gun-wielding guard. Usually people use their knowledge to find the answer but there they use their knowledge to found out questions. At last ,Blonde finally found out the tricky question .The concept was so good and actually the person who watched the movie won't get the answer until before last 10 times.

    REVIEW
    (This review is spoiler free)
I can't say that i loved it and not that I hated it. The movie was good, had a few interesting twists which I didn't expect and I was trying to figure out the question along with the candidates. Although the movie was a thriller I thought the actions of the candidates were retarded and a bit unrealistic. I can't fathom how people could go to such extent for a job. Even though the thriller part of the movie was enjoyable, the climax was a bit of a letdown. It's a movie which can enjoyed once.

  23. Hi mam . This is Madhumithra from apparel tech. Exam is a gem of a film. This low budget psychological thriller is very clever, incredibly entertaining and the production values are all far better then you would expect from such an unknown film. This movie is a tense, mysterious and has a great atmosphere, and more importantly it stimulates our brain. It's impossible to not get caught up in the story and try to figure out just what is actually going on. It couldn't be more engaging. There's not one well-known actor in this cast and yet, for the most part, the acting was great. One actor, Luke Mably, really stood out though. In conclusion, Exam is a great low-budget thriller that puts many Hollywood blockbusters to shame. Definitely worth seeing and I'll be sure to check Stuart Hazeldine's next project after such a promising debut. It is such a superb character study, focusing on what people do in stressful, confusing and even helpless situations. it really gets us to think what is the question, which is so painfully obvious once you realise what is the question.

Exam is a 2009 British psychological thriller film written by simon.
This movie is really a mastermind, its about an exam conducted by a company to hire an intelligent and clever person from applicants.

The character names are all assigned early on as classifications. Such as white, black, deaf, blond …etc.

An amazingly clever psychological thriller movie.

  26. This is Dhanushwari from apparel tech 2015310006. First the good points. I enjoyed the great idea and was expecting something like the cube. The music was pretty good the setting. Visuals and acting are moderate to good.

The movie pretends to be really smart with smart people acting smart. But this is not true. Basically the characters are pretty stupid and act respectively. But I could live with this discrepancy. A bigger problem is that the movie let you think of a smart storyline with smart evolving and maybe some genius plot twists. Basically just the Idea is not evolving at all till after the end of the movie. The characters just do "stuff" all the time. It is not like "the cube" when characters push a mystery along the story. The mystery stays till the end. The revelation of the "mystery" is really poor and is just working in an artificial setting without normal acting Characters.

I think this movie is far away from what it pretends to be and could not recommend it.

  27. This is krishnaveni from apparel tech 2015310013.Exam" is a wonderful psychological study of eight people who are the top candidates for an important job with a high-level corporation.

The time period is some time in the future. Eight candidates are put in a windowless room, and an Invigilator (Colin Salmon). They have 80 minutes to answer a question. There are four rules: don't talk to him, don't talk to the guard, don't leave the room, and don't spoil the piece of paper in front of them.

The candidates find the sheet in from of each of them blank.

One tries to write on the paper and is ejected immediately. After a time, one person figures out that they can talk to one another, and they attempt by various means to see what's on the paper.

Lights, liquids, nothing works. Slowly as the clock goes down, the real personalities of the candidates begin to emerge, and we learn more about them.

The stress becomes worse and worse as people not only seek to find out the question, but "White" (Luke Mably) tries to manipulate people to break a rule so they can be eliminated.

This is an excellent film, though one has to take into account that it is happening in the future. At least in the present, no one would go through what these people did for a job, especially with a selection process like that. I would have left after the Invigilator talked. So we don't know what's going on in the world.

The film presents a real puzzle, and getting to the solution is a fascinating process for the viewer.

The acting is very good and intense, with Luke Mably having the showiest role. Colin Salmon, the Invigilator, has one of the best voices in the world and has an incredible presence.

This movie...rolls around individual personalities....and it is a good psychological...mind twister.... This movie also show human's attitude when there is sudden prospect of riches.... The candidates should be very careful in a competition and shouldn't trust anyone....is one of the important message..
And for a trustworthy popular company.. would always trigger and check the candidate's emotions..
Which would help them to handle customers of different mentality...
This movie clearly depicts how cruel a man would become when there is a sudden offer to become a settled person...

This film also depicts being influenced by the unknown in an exam Hall...
Whatever be the situation,We should always try to save one's life.... which would make us feel satisfied even if we are not paid to the full....
Co- operation was lacking in the candidates hearts... which would have made great results...
The movie was totally exciting.... though it was taken in a single room...
Honesty was not practised in that room....
The movie shows How cruel a person's heart is to make a situation favourable to him....was brought to the extreme
And how a person is affected and used psychologically..was depicted.Though the examwas a psychological mind bender,it brought out everyone's intelligence to the fullest...
Through which we could.... choose the best candidate....

The film “EXAM”, a 2009 British psyhco-thriller film was a very riveting experience for me. One main reason which I feel contributed to the intriguing nature of the movie, is that it managed to address the most brazen of human emotions ranging from stereotyping to backstabbing in a span of 2 hours. In fact, the film was closer to reality than it was to a fictitious scenario. Firstly, the movie precisely stripped down the human societal interaction to its very core: Competition. All life on the face of this earth is programmed to be negative. From bacteria to the gargantuan gaints of the deep sea, every creature is competitve, in order to be in the best of situations and attain the best of the available resources. Humans, obviously, are of no exception. Everyone of the 8 candidates, were ruthless. But the way it manifested was different. While the Chinese woman’s competitiveness reflected as hastiness, White’s as mercilessness, and Brown’s as untrusting, all of their ultimate aim was in acquiring the CEO position of the firm. Some showed restraint, while others ventured deep into their dark side. This setup proved to be a micro environment which paints the bigger yet grimmer picture of the real world. Furthermore, it also underscores the importance of prudence in a time of crisis. Blonde, was able to retain her patience, attention to detail , and especially her compassion to fellow candidates, in a very enervating situation, all qualities expected of a person running a multibillion dollar corporation. She was able decipher the answer to the question, due to her quick-witted nature and thus outsmarted the rest of the entrants. Thus, the film boldly represents the true nature of human psyche by not taking up to much time and cutting straight to the chase when juggling with the different emotional sketches of the candidates. A takeaway from this film, which I feel would be is, all of us, who are constantly running to achieve something, can and should do so in an unfaltering and veracious manner. In doing so, people can achieve what in a fair way, which doesn’t come at the cost of one’s integrity and morality.

  31. Exam movie review

Psychological thrillers may be the most coolest and most popular genre of movies. (Probably sci-fi could match it ) I have watched a good amount of psychological thrillers , like 6th sense, primal fear etc, and they were fantastic. Primal fear brought out the dark side of human behaviour psychology and in a weird way, made you fear the beast inside every person. In 6th sense , the director manages to use the art of misdirection masterfully to lead you into an amazing climax. You could also make a case for Christopher Nolan’s , “The Dark Knight” to be considered as a Psycho thriller due to the presence of a psychologically twisted villain - The Joker, who is masterfully portrayed by Heath Ledger.

These movie brought out different takes on the same root concept, and were excellent due to either- fantastic acting, engaging screenplay , or an involving script.

Though the movie EXAM also presented a different take on the genre, it is a decent movie at best. It does not have an exceptional element, and is further weakened by a lacklustre screenplay and a weak main plot. The plot , in a nutshell, involves candidates attending an interview for a job position. There is only one question asked and the answer should be presented at the end of the exam. The whole movie involves the candidates trying various means to find question and the answer to the question. The only impressive aspect of the movie was its presentation of human behaviour under such a competitive condition (dog eat dog mentality). The thought behind the question and the answer to the question is smart, but its quite simple, and quite frankly, for those who paid enough attention, the movie will end in the first 15 mins. I also felt that the build up towards the climax was a bit too slow for my taste, and could have been faster.

Overall, a good movie for a one-time watch, but not worth watching if someone already spoilt the ending for you.

  32. Setting a thriller in one room is a risky decision, and while writer-director Hazeldine creates a gripping sense of claustrophobia, this film feels both contrived and padded out with unnecessary sequences.
Eight people are called into an examination room by the Invigilator and given simple instructions to get through the last phase of a job interview.

But when the 80-minute clock starts ticking, they realise there's no question on their exam sheet. Trying to work out what to do involves collaborating and competing, and eventually turning on each other. And everyone seems to know something they're not telling the others.

From the moment they're alone in the room their actions and reactions paved way for the people to judge strangers immediately, and this theme continues throughout the film, examining how different personalities interact and deal with old prejudices and moral questions.

So it's a bit frustrating that the script never delves beneath this surface, constantly diving into random set pieces based on someone's idea about how to solve the conundrum or a clash between two of them. We learn things about the world outside the room (there's a fatal virus killing young people, and most in the room have experience with it) and the company that's hiring them (a monolithic pharmaceutical corporation). But the characters never go beyond the stereotypes.

And this shows in the performances, which centre on superficial, physical expression. At least they're extremely well-done, and they give the limited setting more motion and interest. But without ever deepening the themes or really getting into the issues that are raised, Hazeldine has made a film that feels a bit dull and uninvolving. Especially if you're paying attention and figure out some of the story's tricks along the way.

That said, this is a terrific twist on a Lord of the Flies-style breakdown of society, as some characters dissolve into ruthless thugs while others do things that are cruel or stupid or perhaps too compassionate, if that's possible. But without any real depth, the whole thing feels somewhat pointless.

    Review:
Exam is a psychological thriller film released in 2009. The film is based on an employment process of a prestigious drug company. Eight suitable candidates were selected for the final round. They all were given a sheet and they were asked to answer the only question given. Certain rules were put forth before them. When the candidates started the exam, they found nothing in the question paper. So they help each other to find the question. The movie keeps you in the edge of the seat till the end.
    Aspect I liked:
Humans overthink even the smallest of things which ends up in them being in an unnecessary tough situation.
    Learning:
Racism is a deep rooted in society and some major steps needs to be taken to tackle this issue. It also shows the different ways people react to single situation. Violence is not always the answer but patience is a key characteristic that is necessary in all human beings.

  34. This is one of the mysterious and thriller movies in the Hollywood which was written by Simon Garrity and Stuart Hazeldine, directed by Hazeldine. The movie portrays to which extent people are ready to sacrifice their morals for success. The story moves around the eight people with different personalities who wants to get a prestigious job in the mystery company. They are provided a question with some set of rules. They use their talents and a lot of tricks to crack the question. This movie comes to an end with whether they get a job or not if so how they get a job. This movie is a pure thriller and the last ten minutes keep you in the end of the chair. Unless you watch the movie till the end, you can’t understand what the writer wants to tell. Hence this movie is the perfect mystery and thriller to watch. We should appreciate the Director for making such a wonderful movie in a low budget and making it a huge success.

Exam by no means is a horror film, but it does present an underlying tone of horror that is hard to place but is seemly fueled by human emotion and an enigmatic situation. The situation is nothing really new. In the sense that the theme of a group of people selected to participate in a test that involves 1 room, a facilitator that offers little to no real explanations and a circumstance of time.
80 minutes are given with specific narrated instructions that the participants answer 1 question with 1 single answer. Each was selected after ordealing strict pre-selection terms that were never really discussed. All we know is that a test has been given and each participant faces 1 sheet of paper.
Unlike similar scenario films, this group of folks are all here for a job that promises to be more regarding upon selection than anything they could imagine. Each comes from a different background, a different race or more appropriately a different test subject all together. A professional nature and a corporation overtone is clear from the start that sets the tone for these selectees.
There are no other rules, law or terms given to complete the test. This surprise forces the group to work together, to suspect , to question each other and try and determine the main objective. What works for this film is a range of character traits that keeps the mystery and the interaction dynamics interfacing. A few calls are made as to scientific solutions in perhaps reading the paper and a few alternatives are tried.
“Exam” succeeds in keeping a high level of suspense that also keeps the audience glued to the story as a participant themselves. The height of the film is the mystery, the interactions, and the enigmatic environment. The only thing more frustrating than the circumstance is hoping that the film offers a true resolve that fulfills your curiosity.

  37. ‘Exam’ is a movie directed by Stuart Hazeldine which potrays the exam hall scenario for an interview in a vivid manner. The milieu filled with the anxiety of the participants, the enigma about the interview procedure and the stern voice of the invigilator grabs the viewer’s attention right from the start. The behaviour of each participant when they find out that the real task is not answering the question but finding it and the limits to which they push themselves to get the job is the plot. Even though, the beginning of the stipulated eighty minutes involves some teamwork by the participants to find the question , as time ticks off, the fierce competitive mood sets in and the participants become more keen about not being thrown out from the room , while humanity and let alone sympathy is flushed out off their characters. The movie also sheds light on the racist and judgemental nature of people, where the narcissistic guy names others based on appearance and the one where the weak guy is bullied and made to leave the room. Thus, this psychological thriller keeps us on the edge of the seats as we wonder what the question really is and stands as an example of the harsh reality that emotions and empathy don’t stand a chance when one enters the corporate world.

  38. Exam, directed by Stuart Hazeldine and a film I'd never heard of before.

The film centres around 8 candidates for an important position in a mysterious corporation. This is the final test as all 8 are seated in a room and given an exam paper and a few simple rules. The papers turn out to be blank and the tension begins to build in the room as the candidates become confused and desperate to be the one to find the answer to this conundrum as the clock ticks down.

This fresh and original film took me by surprise by how good it was as I had set myself rather low expectations. The whole film is set in the single room where the exam takes place and was clearly filmed on a low budget. No big effects, no CGI, just a good old fashioned plot with superb character development and a script that get your grey matter working. You really get caught up in it all as you try and solve the puzzle with them, and it really is very engaging. The direction and acting were both very good and it's amazing how much they achieved with so little.

It's a simple and original idea that could have easily been a disaster if not executed properly, however they've done a great job here and created a cunning pychological thriller that is a pleasure to watch. If I had any complaints, it would be that the ending - though interesting - seemed a little contrived, and some of the dialogue seemed a little hammy and unnatural at times. But these are minor complaints and on the whole it's definitely worth a watch. Final score 7/10

  41. Exam is an amazing psychological study of 8 top candidates who meets competition, stress, anger and ambition for an important job with a high level corporation. When we think about the plot, and the various holes that open up in the logic of it, we are almost forced to enjoy it for the visuals. Eight candidates are put in a windowless room with an invigilator (Colin salmon). They have been given 80 minutes to answer a question. And the ground rules are they weren’t supposed to talk to the invigilator or to the armed guard or to leave the room or spoil the paper with anything. If they did any of the above, they were disqualified. The invigilator asks if they have any questions, and then leaves the room. There begins everything. The candidates find the sheets to be blank. One tries to write on the paper and gets ejected immediately. And then they realise that they can talk to each other, and they attempt by various means to see what’s on the paper. Lights, liquids, nothing works. As the clock goes down, the real personalities of every candidate begins to emerge and that speeds up the movie. The stress becomes worse and worse as people not only seek to find the question, but “White” tries to manipulate people to break a rule so that they can be eliminated. And it all goes around. The result is intelligent and a little bit suspenseful at its best moments. By the end, I think most people with either be a bit tired of it all, or mostly incredulous. It pulls out lots of tricks, and we are inevitably a little surprised by the final turns of events.

I am very excited upon seeing the film Exam and sitting through it, for I expected that it would give me an impressive outcome, and I have to say, It did deliver. Exam is a film, with 8 main character, a guard, and an invigilator. It gave me a solid plot, awesome acting and great ending. Though the movie being a thriller did not have a lots of screaming and killing. It was still great. It will keep you guessing and guessing and, simultaneously discovering the characters background, this movie is not boring at all, It'll keep you thinking and wait to see if your guess is right.Exam is one of a kind and I wish to see more of this.

  43. The movie "Exam" is an amazing psychological thriller with an intruginig plot. The movie revolves around 8 Candidates who have come to attend the interview of a company. In the interview they are let into a room with no windows and the invigilator specifies a set of 3 rules that should be followed during the 80 minutes of exam. The group figures out ways gradually and only few survive to find the solution from the CEO who is also in the room. The movie is well framed such that It doesn't let the elements of suspense out at any point and keeps it going on an on interestingly.

The theme of the movie to be precise is about the mental status and reactions of human beings when conditioned to stress, fear, need to win and all those emotions that trigger the adrenaline rush. It also shows how life threatening situations could get and how a person should act and prepare him/herself for the battle of life.

My favorite part of the movie is the mystery about the question. The urge to know what the question is and how they would let themselves free kept me curious especially towards the end.

    Lessons learnt :
Appearances are deceptive so we shouldn't underestimate the capabilities of any person. Greed can destroy the well being of a person. So it is always good to put some trust on others and work together for a better future.

The plot was revolves around eight different exam candidates having different perception of their own.the movie starts with 8 canditates who came up for exam as a part oftheir job.this movie secretly implies that exam was not only giving answer with pen and paper for what they asked by questioner.Scientifically speaking, exam is totally beyond of all our regular thinking.
Totally this movie worth enough to watch multiple times

  46. The movie EXAM just says that " First listen and then execute " . people are not giving any attention to what other says .its a biggest mistake we are doing in our day to day life.
Here in this movie the candidates are allowed to write the exams in closed room with a three set of rules to make them think. The candidates tried in different ways to write the answer in blank page. But they couldn't able to find the answer nor question.. The only women who listen property wrote the answer for the question .
The main thing which I impressed here is the twist at the end ..yes, the CEO of that company is one of the candidate.

Intense, Gripping and Exhausting. A smartly manoeuvred psychological mind-bender that twist your personality and way of thinking upto the last limit. This low budget psychological thriller is very clever, incredibly entertaining and the production values are all far better then you would expect from such an unknown film. It's tense, mysterious and has a great atmosphere, and more importantly it stimulates your brain.
This film is about eight candidates who are in the final round of selection for a prestigious job. They have to answer one question in eighty minutes, but the question sheet they have is blank.

The whole film has the same setting and characters throughout, but it is never boring. Not even for one minute. With every single minute, it gets more suspenseful and engaging.

It is such a superb character study, focusing on what people do in stressful, confusing and even helpless situations. it really gets you to think what is the question, which is so painfully obvious once you realise what is the question.

The best thing is that, there is no flaw in the plot. The plot revolves around 8 candidates. It is not easy to come up with such an intelligent plot. "Exam" has to be one of the most suspenseful, intriguing, clever, well written and thrilling film.

The suspense kills you till end
This movie is really a mastermind, its about an exam conducted by a company to hire an intelligent and clever person from the applicants. A person who watch this movie for the first time wont get the answer until before the last 10 minutes, and that is the victory of the movie. A smartly manoeuvred psychological mind-bender that twist your personality and way of thinking upto the last limit. Director Stuart Hazeldine intelligently executed this chiller to line-up himself as one of the best director of the recent years.

The movie Exam is directed by Hazeldine and written by Simon Garrity and Stuart Hazeldine. It is a psychological thriller movie with made me stick to the chair until the end. This movie is about 8 candidates appearing for CEO assessment and their characteristic behaviours while enduring 2 hours of the exam period. There was no question given and the candidates are evaluated based on the psyche when the stressful situation is given to them. Among the 8 blonde played wisely with patience throughout the pla, while all other candidates failed to qualify as humans. This movie clearly shows the bitter nature of human behaviour and its consequences. Yes!! the term humanity in the Human has disappeared that humans are no longer benign personalities. Director directed in a way that entire movie is a thriller with the brilliant ploy at the end. Every movie has its own morality and lesson, which the director wants to teach beings. The lesson which I want to learn from this movie is Humanity comes not by being human, it comes by practising humanity.

The question comes right at the beginning of the movie when the invigilator asks the candidates "Any questions?". The candidates assume it to be standard procedure for the invigilator to clarify their doubts and do not realize that this was in fact the question they were supposed to answer. There were no other questions anywhere.
It was near the end of the movie that "Blonde" realizes this fact and gives a prompt "No" as an answer, after which she was hired by Deaf, who turned out to be the CEO of the company. This movie would be a smartly manoeuvred psychological mind-bender that twist your personality and way of thinking upto the last limit.

The theme of the movie is about how human beings, who call themselves the most intelligent creatures on the planet, behave when there are tough conditions such as that found in the movie. The movie is indeed a thriller. Even though there are parts which is too dramatic, the overall movie was good as it portrayed something noteworthy- Human behaviour.

The movie is about a written exam for a high-end job where people from different races and cultures take part. The problem is that they do not know the question to be answered. This made them nervous as time went and they all started quarrelling. There are people who behaved in a very mean manner just because they had to pass that examination. Certainly, there were better brains but the best mind which kept control of its senses throughout the examination under such pressurizing situations, passed the exam.

If they had listened to what is being said and observe what is obvious, all these things could not have happened. Further, it is a proof of how human mind behaves under such conditions. If this is how people behave for a job, think of the potential of the human mind to behave when there are real life pressurizing situations. Will it try to survive or will it try to hold its morals and virtues above survival? Or is it capable of doing both? Everyone should put themselves in such circumstances mentally and think of what they would do. Certainly, everyone wants to be good people. But that is not the reality in most cases. Why do some individuals succeed and others succumb? If everyone is capable of reading themselves and have the willingness to transform their thoughts and behaviour to become better humans, the world will be a better place to live.

  56. This is really an awesome movie. it tells us nothing abt the candidates before they enter into the room. The room itself pretty bare and it got a block out windows, a timer, eight desks with pieces of paper and a pencil on them. The proctor comes in and says the rules that they'll have eighty minutes to answer the one question before them. But if they spoil their paper or try to communicate with other candidates or the armed guard by the door or try to leave the room they will be disqualified and forced to leave the room. When the proctor steps our of the room, test begins. Then the candidates flipped over their papers and found out papers are blank with no questions stated. Now they have to solve the riddle but some of them begin to eliminate themselves and some of the candidates begin eliminate each other due to high stress situation . The plot makes me more curious who was going to be the last person standing. Only the blonde realizes that question. In the starting ,the proctor asks,"Any Questions?"
That was the question to which the blonde answers at last moment as "No".
